PECS App & Website - SY Project
I have a non-verbal brother with severe autism, and I often watched him struggle to communicate his needs.
Many PECS apps we tried were too complicated or expensive, and some didn’t show which words he used most.
To help, I created a PECS app that is simple, sensory-friendly, affordable, and fun.
It includes features like a reward screen with growing fish, usage statistics, and a “Most Used” category for quick access.
I also built a website, Speak with Pictures, where families can print the same PECS cards, attach Velcro, and use them as real-life cards.
This allows children to practice communication both digitally and physically.
Looking ahead, I plan to add more PECS cards, complete all app features, and expand the website to provide resources and information for families of individuals with autism.
This project taught me about design, empathy, problem-solving, and persistence, and I hope it helps many families communicate more easily and meaningfully.

October 8, 2025 —Speak With Pictures is now available on the App Store.

Speak with pictures Website
I was responsible for the UI/UX design of the Speak With Pictures App, using Photoshop, Procreate, and Figma.
Each visual element was carefully refined to create a clear, warm, and engaging user experience.
The app was developed over the course of several months and is available for both iPhone and iPad.
It originally launched with 184 picture cards, later expanded to 204 cards, and continues to grow.
New cards are added whenever new ideas come to mind, and future updates will include even more visual vocabulary for users.
While the initial release focuses on the core communication features, the reward screen, statistics dashboard, and settings page—originally part of the full vision—are still in development and will be added in a future update.
The SpeakWithPictures.org website was created using Wix.
Both the app and the website include the same PECS cards, and for those who are not familiar with using mobile devices, all cards have been uploaded in a printable format.
This allows users to print the cards, laminate them, and attach Velcro to create physical PECS cards for everyday use.
Now available for free, Speak With Pictures aims to bring comfort, understanding, and meaningful support to families of individuals with autism around the world.
