Connecting hearts through music—sharing warmth and comfort with my flute

Since 10th grade, I have been playing the flute in my school’s marching band as well as in an ensemble team outside of school.

Every year, we perform twice—once at the end of May and again during the Christmas season—for benefit concerts and events at senior homes. Leading up to each concert, I’ve practiced with my ensemble team to build harmony and connection.

These concerts were dedicated to supporting underprivileged children and bringing joy to seniors, and I found deep meaning in being able to offer even a small moment of comfort through music. Sometimes I performed as part of the ensemble, and other times I played solo.

One of the most touching experiences was performing for elderly residents at senior homes—seeing their warm smiles and hearing their applause reminded me of the quiet power of music.

This experience has taught me that music can be more than just a hobby—it can be a bridge of empathy.

Since 2024, I have been serving as the woodwind section leader in our marching band. In the 2024 benefit concert, we raised about $5,000, which was donated to the Global Children Foundation to help underprivileged children. In 2025, our benefit concert raised around $8,000, continuing our efforts to make a positive difference through music.

Through these performances, I’ve discovered a joy that enriches my life: the joy of giving, connecting, and making a small difference through something I love.
